Citroen Nemo LX 1.4 HDi

Verdict Manufacturers RRP £ 9,915.00 (excluding VAT)

A compact cargo holder aimed at urban based businesses

Sized in between a Berlingo and a C2 Enterprise, the new Citroen Nemo is a compact cargo holder aimed at urban businesses. The Nemo was produced as a joint venture along with the new Peugeot Bipper and the Fiat Fiorino.

The Nemo is offered with a choice of a 1.4-litre HDi common rail four cylinder engine (also found in Ford’s Fiesta Van), or a 1.4-litre petrol engine. The 1.4-litre HDi has a peak torque of 160Nm at 1,750rpm and its CO2 emissions are competitive at a mere 119g/km – this may give the Nemo the upper hand when it comes to congestion charges, and it’s also worth noting that the vehicle can run on 30 per cent bio diesel. It’s expected that 90 per cent of buyers will opt for the diesel model. Both engines have 5-speed manual transmission.

Citroen have a great reputation for producing car-like vans which are comfortable, easy to handle and responsive when manoeuvring. The Citroen Nemo fitted this bill and was a doddle to drive about town. It’s a great sized van for parking in urban areas and its hydraulically-assisted power steering coupled with a 9.95 kerb to kerb turning circle make manoeuvring  the van a piece of cake. When packed with a load of 400kg, the van handled well. A slightly stronger application on the brakes and a bit more acceleration were required throughout the drive, but all in all, it made for a smooth, comfortable ride.

The cabin is comfortable with plush, easily adjustable seats and a large wind screen coupled with good sized mirrors add to the ease of the drive. A radio/CD player comes as standard, but you’ll have to pay a premium for Bluetooth, rear parking sensors and cruise control. Storage options available are deep door pockets, drinks holders and a glove compartment.

With a maximum payload of 610kg, a 2.5cu.m cargo bay, and the option to expand the load space by 2.8cu.m, the Nemo is the height of versatility. Folding down the new Extenso passenger seat, provides the extra load space and to protect the driver, an option of a mesh bulkhead can be added to separate the driver from the passenger area. Rear doors open to 180 degrees but there is not the option of a hatch. Side sliding doors are offered as an additional extra.

ABS comes as standard on all Nemos, with ventilated 257mm-diameter disc brakes installed at the front and drums at the back. Electronic Stability Programme is not available at present, but could be a possibility for the future. An additional safety feature is the locking system meaning that the cab can be locked independently whilst you’re accessing the load.
