Good performance prompts new order.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has placed an order for 64 new Vauxhall Movano van models, after being impressed by their performance as accident and emergency ambulances.
The new ambulances, currently under construction, will more than double the size of the Trust’s existing Movano stock, to 124 out of a total 275 ambulances.
The new Movanos will be deployed to hospitals and ambulance stations across the region and form a vital element in the Trust’s response to more than 720,000 emergency calls a year.
Each ambulance will cover at least 250,000 miles during their first five years of service.
Graham Cann is Regional Head of Fleet at the West Midlands Ambulance Service. He said: “The Vauxhall Movano performs well for us in the front-line ambulance role. It has the right specification for the job, including ample power to get to incidents quickly and transfer patients to hospital. Our crews find it a driver-friendly vehicle, which is comfortable both for them and their patients.”
Mr Cann added that the Movano had also proved to be “a practical vehicle”, praising the good availability of parts and ease of access for fitters.
In May, the Vauxhall Vivaro won Best Medium Van at the Van Fleet World Awards 2009 for no less than the seventh time, making the van model the most successful Van Fleet World winner in its class.
