  • 08/10/2009 September success for Citroen Good September figures for the French van manufacturer.   Figures released for LCV van sales in September have shown the Citroën is the favourite manufacturer among those buying a new van. Last month one in ten vans sold were made by Citroën, meaning they had almost matched their figures from September 2008. Achieving a total of 2,876 registrations the sales were split fairly equally between the Nemo, Dispatch and Relay models. However the Citroen Berlingo proved to be the motorists favourite, accounting for 49.7 percent of sales. Robert Handyside, commercial vehicles operations manager, said: The September sales figures demonstrate that Citroen’s overall LCV package is ultra-competitive in today’s van market.  Citroen has the UK’s most modern LCV range – with its associated fuel efficiency and emissions benefits – which puts the Company in an extremely strong position.” In related van news, the Citroën Berlingo was named by the Institute of Transport Management’s LCV of the year according to a report on Easier.com. ITM named the Berlingo Crew Van as the winner after being impressed with its ultra-flexible passenger and load capacity combination. The sliding and folding rear seats mean it can be used as either a two-seater (with 1,805mm long, 3.35cu.m load compartment) or five-seater (1,320mm long, 2.4cu.m capacity load compartment) depending on load requirements. The judges were also impressed with its low CO2 emissions and the inclusion of the Trafficmaster Smartnav and Trackstar a stolen vehicle tracking system which is unique in the LCV sector. The van is regarded as excellent value for money and competitively priced and UK-registered business can fully reclaim the VAT. Robert Handyside, Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager, said, “We are delighted that the Institute of Transport Management has recognised Citroen’s considerable environmental strengths and the merits of the brilliantly versatile Citroen Berlingo Crew Van with this prestigious award. No crew carrier of its type can offer such an extensive range of operator-friendly attributes with such unbeatable value-for-money.” In related news, Lord Mandelson has announced that the UK’s scrappage scheme will receive a £100million lifeline to extend the project.
