Peugeot 207 ReviewPeugeot 207 Van 1.4 HDi 70 (SWB) Manufacturer’s RRP: £8,675 (excluding VAT) An attractive, useful van for a small business or if you're a couple with dogs! Peugeot is well known for making hatchbacks that are both energy efficient and entertaining, so it's easy to see why the new Peugeot 207 Van is an appealing run around for those who prefer comfort over load space. Technical Larger than the 206 which it replaces, the Peugeot 207 van is available with 3 different engines, a 1.4 litre petrol with 75hp, or for a more energy efficient choice, the 1.4 litre diesel with 70hp is the model we tested, with a 1.6 HDi 90hp also available.
Drive Coupled with a striking exterior, the Peugeot van fails to disappoint in drive and performance. The engine is quiet with smooth steering and a responsive gearbox. A little extra pressure than normal is required when accelerating, but it's a small price to pay for energy efficiency. The van remains unstressed under duress, with enough torque to handle its maximum cargo weight. Cabin comfort The interior of the cabin is minimal and in keeping with the rest of the 207 family, with splurges of black plastic and the recognisable sporty, silver edged dials to boot. The driving seat was surprisingly comfortable, with all of the main dials and the gearbox within easy reach. The storage options are fairly limited with only one cup holder and doors that are only wide enough to fit a 500ml bottle comfortably. There are two additional cup holders in the glove box, but trying to stand up a cup of coffee in there proves difficult. Load area A generous sized rear hatch gives access to a large and spacious boot making loading and unloading very easy. With a payload of 450kg and a volume of 1.1 metres cubed, the Peugeot is positioned well against the Corsavan and the Ford Fiesta which both carry a maximum volume of 0.9 and 1.0 metres cubed respectively. There are 6 lashing hooks located on the carpeted floor and the boot is noticeably designed to allow as much space as possible for your load. Our vehicle had an impressive full-height metal bulkhead to protect occupants, but a half-height bulkhead comes as standard, so you'll have to pay £85 for the upgrade. Standard Safety features The Peugeot 207 van received a five star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test ratings for front and side impact, and the doors feel nice and sturdy. The suspension has also been upgraded on this model which makes for better road holding and it also means that the van can cope better with a maximum load. Standard safety features include: Verdict A stylish, comfortable and safe van with a versatile load space, perfect for driving and manoeuvring within urban areas.
