Van drivers safest motorists on the road

Statistics from Tesco show that van drivers do not make as many claims on their motor insurance policies as other motorists.

The company added that one in five people driving vans have often had extra training in order to improve their technique while travelling.

Speaking on behalf of Tesco, Allan Burns stated that the traditional perception of van drivers being somewhat dangerous is out-of-date.

He said: "Van drivers are often stereotyped as rogues of the road. However, our own records show that van drivers are actually very safe drivers and in our eyes they deserve a good insurance rate."

Earlier this week, Direct Line for Business remarked that business van owners should remember to refrain from smoking behind the wheel.

According to the firm, 7.5 million motorists are not aware that the public smoking ban applies to work vehicles.
