Used van values should be reviewed © Adfero Ltd Values for hard-used vans are not realistic enough, it has been claimed.Van manufacturers tend to calculate residual values for commercial vehicles against a three-year, 60,000-mile standard, similar to that for cars, according to EurotaxGlass's. However, the organisation warned that this is not suitable for some vans as many - particularly panel vans - do more than 30,000 miles a year. George Alexander, chief commercial vehicle editor for EurotaxGlass's, said that this yardstick currently favours vans that will only fare well up to a certain point before deteriorating as they approach 100,000 miles. "The need is to determine values for hard-used vans at the end of a contract and not for the cleanest most popular models, with modest warranted mileage," he remarked. Last month, the organisation launched a new product, the i-Value for Commercial Vehicles, to help commercial vehicle sellers value their models more easily.
