© Adfero Ltd Parents are being urged to make sure they do not take any chances when their children learn to become the next generation of car and van drivers.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), mums and dads can do a lot in order to ensure their child has a smooth tuition process.

This includes sitting in the back of the vehicle during lessons, but keeping silent and observing the instructor - drawing on the information for when they take the learner out themselves.

However, the group has advised that the vehicle in which they learn could also be a factor in how they develop their skills.

"A larger vehicle that has an automatic transmission is of limited use if you know that your youngster will eventually do their test in a manual Micra," said the company.

This comes as a new Nintendo DS computer game has been designed in order to help people pass their driving test.

Driving Theory Training will be released this summer.
