Eco-friendly vehicles may not always cut insurance costs © Adfero Ltd The cost of insurance for a car or van may not be affected by how environmentally-friendly it is, a sector body has stated.Instead, people should consider the grouping and size of a vehicle, as well as how much it costs to repair if they want a cheaper insurance deal, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association. Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the organisation, remarked that how green a vehicle is "isn't a major factor" in terms of cover. He said: "Smaller cars, which therefore give out less pollution, are automatically going to be cheaper to insure but it doesn't necessarily mean that a green one is going to be hugely beneficial financially on your insurance." Meanwhile, research conducted by HybridCars.com last month found that the number of environmentally-friendly hybrid vehicles being sold now makes up more than three per cent of the total car market.
