Dont Bother, motorists tell thieves © Adfero Ltd A new police campaign launched by officers in South Gloucestershire is advising car and van drivers how to avoid becoming the target of vehicle crime.The Avon and Somerset constabulary is handing out Don't Bother packs to motorists at hot spots in the area which advise them on deterring thefts. Some 13 incidents of vehicle crime have been reported in Kingswood, Patchway and Soundwell over the course of June, it added. Police sergeant Kevin Wilkinson of the South Gloucestershire Community Safety Team claimed that the message from the body is "simple". He said: "Take portable valuables out of the vehicle completely and clean the marks off the windscreen before leaving your car or van parked overnight." Statistics from the Home Office show that there has been a 61 per cent drop in vehicle crime since its peak in 1995. From 2006 to 2007, there were nearly 1.7 million automobile-related thefts.
