© Adfero Ltd Car and van drivers parking dangerously in Leeds are to be targeted by police as part of a crackdown, it has been reported.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, motorists are persisting in such behaviour despite warning notices issued by officials across the area.

It may be that drivers caught out for the offence pick up a road conviction which can compromise their van insurance policy if cover firms consider them a threat as a result.

Concerns have been raised by the blocking of disabled areas by the rogue parking, commented Leeds North West Inner Neighbourhood Policing Team inspector Ian Croft.

He said: "We will continue our work over the next few weeks and want to warn motorists that this type of offending will be dealt with positively."

Earlier this month, the same news source reported that some 13 motorists are caught every day in the region illegally using their mobile phones behind the wheel.
