track© Adfero Ltd Car and van drivers in Cambourne were caught at a rate of one per minute as part of a 90-minute crackdown by police in the area, it has been reported.

According to the Falmouth Packet, the initiative went ahead despite roadworks in the region which meant the usual 70mph limit was reduced to 50mph.

Some 95 drivers were found breaking the law over period and it could be that they now have difficulty picking up a car or van insurance policy in the future.

This is because cover firms could choose to increase costs for people who have picked up road convictions, seeing them as a potential risk.

"Such reckless driving could easily result in the loss of control of the vehicle, with the potential outcome of serious injuries or fatalities," said Mark Leath, police constable and road casualty reduction officer.

Meanwhile, new Haringey Council figures show that the number of deaths and injuries on roads in Haringey has fallen to 78 in 2007, according to the Hornsey Journal.ADNFCR-679-ID-18656529-ADNFCR
