Checks on vehicles close to airport

track© Adfero Ltd Police in Edinburgh will be conducting a number of checks on vehicles travelling close to the airport to make sure they are roadworthy, it has been reported.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, officers will today be stopping cars and vans at random and asking to see relevant documentation.

It could be that should a driver fail and pick up a road conviction, they have difficulty gaining cheap car or van insurance in the future.

This is because some cover firms could view them as a risk on the road and increase prices.

"The aim of these road checks is to remind motorists of the importance of keeping their vehicles roadworthy and safe," said a spokeswoman for the police.

Similar checks were carried out in Midlothian, this time following a shooting in the area, according to the BBC.

Officers spoke to motorists between 19:30 and 22:00 BST, the news source added.ADNFCR-679-ID-18655364-ADNFCR
