Findings from Confused.com show that males who have tied the knot save an average amount of £106.88 on cover each year compared to their single counterparts.

Collectively, married couples save around £82.70 on car and van insurance, which the group has suggested may have something to do with the fact that women are often offered cheaper deals.

According to Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, it is a good idea to assess the market thoroughly before taking out a deal.

She said: "However, it is important to remember that car insurance quotes can vary wildly and so shopping around for the best bet is always advised."

Earlier this month, Ms Williams commented that people looking to carry out DIY in their homes should make sure they do not take any risks.
