With exhibition space sold out in record time and over 13,000 attendees already pre-registered, this year's Commercial Vehicle (CV) Show is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before.
Taking place between April 15th and 17th at Birmingham's NEC, the event will feature a range of exhibitors showcasing a variety of products designed for fleet engineers, transport, fleet or logistics managers, owners, and senior managers from every sector of the UK road transport business.
According to organisers all of the exhibition space at what is now Europe's biggest annual dedicated road transport and logistics show has been taken, while outside exhibition space has also been snapped up.
Tony Young, CV Show manager, said "That is well up on the comparative figure for last year and is a tremendous indication of the success of last year's show."
"We're confident that by the time the doors close on April 17th, we will have seen that number more than double," he added.
Among the exhibitors displaying their products will be Toyota, Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles, Locks 4 Vans, Fiat Group Automobiles, Smith Electric Vehicles, Trukrax Vehicle Racking Systems and a host of others.
Fiat announced they are to showcase a broad range of commercial products at the event including the new Fiat Fiorino light van, two Doblo Cargos, three Scudos, four Ducatos and a Grande Punto van.
The new Fiat Fiorino light van is powered by either a 1.4-litre 73 bhp petrol or 1.3-litre 75 bhp MultiJet turbodiesel engine, and is expected to offer strong performance, reliability, economy and environmental friendliness.
Fiat Professional, the commercial vehicle arm of Fiat Group Automobiles SpA, is also using the CV Show to launch its new one-stop-shop conversion service. Customers using this facility will be able to specify the type of vehicle they need and have it delivered completed without having to order the chassis or wait for a conversion to be carried out.
Nissan is also unveiling its new product - the reintroduction of its workhorse pickup model, re-named NP300 which features a 2.5-litre diesel engine, 1,115kg payload and 3,000kg towing capacity.
The NP300 will be available in three bodystyles; single cab, king cab and double cab, with the latter being available from late summer. It will be on Nissan's stand along with a selection of commercial vehicles and conversions from the recently-launched Good-To-Go range including three converted Cabstars and Crew Van Interstar.
Citroen's new Nemo van is creating "a lot of interest" among businesses before it receives its official launch at the Birmingham NEC in April. The new van will be powered by a 70hp 1.4-litre HDi diesel engine, generating 160Nm of torque and producing 119g/km of CO2.
Speaking to Roadtransport.com at the beginning of the month, Robert Handyside, Citroen's CV operations manager for the UK, said: "The new Nemo is a groundbreaking van and there has already been a lot of interest in it, especially from businesses who operate in urban environments. We expect it to attract new customers to Citroen."
Volkswagen is set to unveil the new Caddy Maxi van at this year's CV show as well as the 'ultra-green' Caddy BlueMotion concept vehicle.
The new brand of Volkswagen van uses advanced diesel technology to improve fuel consumption and lower emissions
British company Spraydown will be on hand to showcase their newly patented and type approved spray suppression kit. Drawing on leading edge vane design and technology, normally associated with high performance turbines in the aero engine and power generation industries, the technology is a first for the industry. Tests at Britain's Transport Research Laboratory revealed that it reduces drive-by obscuration by 43 per cent.
Commercial vehicle racking specialists Sortimo will be showing off its new Boxx, a service case with a transparent lid.
Scarab, one of the world's largest independent maker of heavy-duty road sweepers, will use its stand for the world premiere of the latest version of the compact Scarab Minor sweeper.
Vic Beckwith, business development manager with Scarab, said: "We expect lots of interest with the launch of new models at the CV Show."
For three days in April the NEC becomes the hub of the commercial vehicle industry. Manufacturers and importers use the CV Show as the primary platform to launch new products while supporting sectors view the event as the keystone of their marketing activity.
For visitors, the show puts everything, from new tractor units, to trailer landing legs all under one roof.
As David Sedgley of Roadlink International, CV Show chairman says: "This year's CV Show will be the biggest ever, the best ever and confirms the vital position of the UK's road transport industry within UK plc, and within the rest of Europe."
